In all of sports, there may not be a more important position than the Quarterback; the QB is the leader of the offense and everything runs through him. From Terry Bradshaw to Big Ben, we have had our fair share of great QBs in a Steeler uniform. The Steelers had a Super Bowl drought from 1980 to 2006 and the biggest reason why there was such a long wait for the next Lombardi is because of the QB position. The Steelers are in good hands as we have a hall of fame QB at the center of our offense, but how great can Ben be this year and how will the back up position shake out? Let's check it out:
Projected Starter
Obviously (Mike Tomlin voice), there is no question that Big Ben is going to be the starter for the Steelers either until he retires or his arm stops working like Peyton Manning. This team will go as far as Ben can take them and it is absolutely crucial that he remains healthy in 2019. Josh Dobbs and Mason Rudolph are both young back ups and have yet to show any ability even close to Big Ben. Dobbs is probably a back up for life (the Oakland game last year showed that) and Rudolph may still need some time to develop into a #1 QB, so it is a good thing we have one of the best O-Lines in the league to protect #7.

Best Case Scenario
Big Ben shows absolutely no decline with old age and plays at a MVP level for a team that truly needs him to. He recorded career highs in TD's and passing yards in 2018, so staying in that ballpark keeps the team elevated. #7 is more motivated going into this season than any season before as he has been the culprit of offseason ridicule after the whole AB saga, and he can funnel all that motivation into a great season. With a more balanced offense, Ben cuts his interception total from 16 to 8 and is a much more efficient passer. Also, best case scenario is Mason Rudolph seizes the back up spot from Josh Dobbs and gets some playing time in blow out wins to start building for the future. Hoping he plays great in the preseason to relieve fan questioning and gain confidence; Steelers nation would like, for the first time in years, to have confidence if the backup is needed.

That about sums it up.... put Ben in bubble wrap any moment he is not on the field to keep him healthy.
Overall Group Rating: A-
When you have a hall of fame QB like Ben, you automatically get an A, but since the back ups are young and unproven, it drops the overall group rating to an A-. Dobbs showed good growth during the preseason last year, but he was a dud against the Raiders and Rudolph's potential is still a wait and see.
