The Renegade: Our Top 3 Steelers in our Lifetime

clutchpoints.com
There have been many great players for the Steelers during our lifetime (we were born in 1995/96, fyi), but who are each of our three favorites players? Let's find out who!

Ryan's Top 3

1. The Killer B's!!

Brown, Bell, and Bryant. These guys were the best! Best arsenal in the league! Perennial Super Bowl Champions year-in and year-out. Co-winners of the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for like 3 straight years! The only player who could've made this group better was Limas Sweed........................But for real, for real, the only 'B' that ever truly mattered, Big Ben.

(Actual) 1. Ben Roesthlisberger

Ahh there we go. The Steelers 2004 1st round pick and NFL Offensive RoY, 6x Pro-Bowler, 2x Super Bowl champion, and best QB in franchise history. And defacto team captain for years. He may not be the best guy in the world but he's the guy I grew up admiring. Every kid wants to be a star QB (RB or WR) growing up and he was drafted when I was in the 4th grade. So there's your context. My parents refused to buy me jerseys growing up but the one I did get (multiple times) was big ole' #7.

2. Maurkice Pouncey

I played football from 8-18, pee-wee through high school, and the whole time I was a center. Connecting the dots here? Maurkice has been one of the leaders of the franchise since being drafted in 2010 and possibly the most reliable player (when healthy). Also, he is low-key the most important Steeler, as Ben and him have public acknowledged retiring at the same time. Whether it's a joke or not, if you think about it, Pouncey may be a really key piece in keeping Ben and the franchise elite for a few more seasons.

3. Brett Keisel

Da Beard!!! Talk about a good football player and all around great dude. Not only a key piece in dominant Dick LeBeau Steelers defenses but also a 2x Super Bowl champ. He is a great ambassador for the city of Pittsburgh. Him and his wife contribute to multiple charitable foundations. A great family man. It is hard to leave him off this list. The only crime here is he went to only 1 Pro-Bowl.

Aaron's Top 3

1. Troy Polamalu

He leaped over offensive lines and he also leaped into our hearts. Troy is probably my favorite Steeler to ever watch play because you never knew where he would line up on the field and he seemed to always make ridiculous plays. From his ridiculous one handed interception against the Chargers to his AFC Championship clinching INT return against the Ravens, he made plays we will never forget about. I only wish Troy was still involved with the franchise, but I respect his decision to live his life in quiet, just as he was always quiet off the field, but heard everywhere on the field.

2. Hines Ward

That smile.. you'll never forget it. Hines Ward might be the player that made me fall in love with football. He loved the game, always playing it with a smile... but he punished any defensive player anytime he got the chance. He was a pleasure to watch in black and gold!

3. Ryan Shazier

Shazier has been an inspiration to us all as he has overcome his spinal cord injury to be working out again and training to hopefully make a NFL comeback one day. The thing is, I loved Ryan Shazier even before he started inspiring me with his recovery. His speed on the Steelers defense was truly game changing and he was becoming an All-Pro linebacker before his injury.

Honorable Mentions: JuJu and James Conner, who may be our favorites in due time!!

There are so many great stories that making a top 3 was difficult for each of us. Who are your top 3 Steelers in your lifetime?? Thanks for reading and Here We Go Steelers!

-Aaron and Ryan, TGYK
