Panther Talk: Most Painful Pitt Moments in Past 10 Years

Because we love to torture ourselves, us guys here at TGYK went and put together a list of our most painful Pitt memories in the last ten years. These are all ranked from most painful to least painful, although all of them still hurt until this day. Let's take a look..

Scottie Reynolds

You knew this was going to be number one. I will never forget this moment as I cried in my bedroom with three of my best friends as a young middle school kid when that shot went in. Nothing else needs to be said...

Mardy Gilyard Happened

Pitt vs. Cincy with a Big East title and BCS bowl on the line. Pitt was up 31-10 in the first half with 1:26 left and all seemed well in panther nation.. then Mardy Gilyard happened. On any given Saturday at Heinz Field, you will still hear fans saying "Don't kick to Gilyard!" Even with 1:36 left in the game, pitt went up 44-38, just to have that lead lost in 1:03 seconds as Cincy won 45-44. Truly, a painful experience that started some down years for Pitt football.

Pitt vs. Butler Second Round NCAA Tournament 2011

Wow, this still hurts. This one is not as much sadness as it is anger. With 3 seconds left Butler scored to go up 70-69 and it looked like all hope was lost for Pitt. Alas! Pitt got lucky as Butler fouled Gilbert Brown who drilled his first foul shot to tie the game... and then the second shot happened. Brown missed, which is fine, #1 Pitt vs. #8 Butler, Pitt has a good shot in overtime, right? Nope. Nasir Robinson fouled Matt Howard on the rebound and Pitt lost in brutal fashion. Ugh, what could have been!

Tyler Ennis Shot

Talib Zanna hit two foul shots with 4.4 seconds left against undefeated #1 Syracuse and the Oakland Zoo was ROCKING.... then the next 4.4 seconds happened. There's no way they could get a good shot off going full court in that amount of time, right? Actually, this is true because they did not get a good shot off... but the stupid ball still went in. At the time, the second largest crowd in Petersen Events History went silent and was full of pain and sorrow...

All the UNC Loses

As a fan, Pitt's loss to UNC in the 2016 season was truly a painful experience. Pitt was up 36-30 with 3:25 on the clock as UNC marched down the field converting THREE 4th downs all leading to this game winning play...

That loss is even more painful because of how much potential that 2016 team had, if only they had a secondary... Oh yea, let's not forget losing to 1-8 UNC on a Thursday night to ruin our bowl chances...

2018 PSU Loss in Downpour

It..Rained..All..Damn..Day. Everyone was hyped up for a primetime match up against PSU at Heinz Field. The tailgate started at 12 pm even though it was pouring rain all day, and the tailgate was an absolute blast; however, the game was different. We want to live in a world where Kirk does not fumble that punt before the end of the first half. The game goes into halftime at 7-6, and let's play it out from there. Pure suffering during that second half.

As Pitt fans we like to complain a lot that we have it rough as a fan base, but after putting this list together, we truly have had some painful moments in just the last ten years. We are very curious what some other most painful Pitt moments are in history and we would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for reading and sorry for having you relive these awful memories!
