Godzilla: King of the Monsters

  • Rating - B... go see it on the biggest screen you can find with the largest tub of popcorn you can buy
  • GIANT MONSTERS FIGHTING! What more do you need people?! The sequel to the 2014 "Godzilla," which I quite enjoyed, but didn't have enough of the big boy in it. That's far from the case in this movie; just like the trailers there is a lot of Godzilla and his Kaiju friends - Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidora. First off, we stan Mothra! Yas queen Mothra! Beautiful design and sound design (that goes for the whole movie). Look, you come for the action and director Michael Dougherty does a great job with these giant fights. Plus composer Bear McCreary's score is absolutely wonderful. The story on the other hand.... look, I didn't come for the story, but it's not good. Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, and Ken Watanabe do wonderful jobs with what they're given and their 1-liners, but a ton of the side-characters could've been scrapped or eaten at some point, they were useless. The least believable part of this movie was a Dunkin ad in Boston instead of a Tim Hortons ad, stupid. But most importantly, this movie sets up the next Ali vs Fraizer; coming March 2020 KING KONG vs GODZILLA!!! What's a King to a God?

When They See Us (Netflix)

  • Rating - A-...move to next in your Netflix queue
  • Ava Duvernay's 4-part miniseries on the Central Park 5 case is not a fun watch by any means, but it's an absolute necessary watch. For those not familiar with this case, it is about five boys (ages 14-16) who get accused and incarcerated for violently raping a jogger in Central Park in 1989. One of the more famous race cases in American history, the series spans to all the way to 2001 as the 4 episodes act as 4 chapters in the men's (and their families') lives from children in court to adulthood. Duvernay's powerful direction brings the most out of her two main casts and the supporting cate, to the point where you will cry watching multiple interactions in these episodes. What cannot be forgotten is how relevant certain aspects of this show are to today's society, going all the way up to the White House. My only negative being the last 2 episodes do drag-on a little too long for me. Overall, this is a great representation of how being a 'criminal' affects one's life; going through the system and coming out of incaceration, much like HBO's 2017 mini-series "The Night Of."

What We Do In The Shadows (FX)
  • Rating: A+...move to next in your queue, one of the best comedy's on TV, an absolute must-watch
  • For anyone who has seen Taika Watiti's (Director of "Thor: Ragnarok") independent vampire comedy "What We Do in the Shadows" movie, you'll love this continuation of the world. From creators of the movie Watiti and producing partner, Jermaine Clement, this series takes place in Staten Island, New York with a new group of vampires who are just as, if not more, fun than the original group; Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) are all excellent. Living in their house are familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillen), and energy vampire Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch). Colin Robinson, the energy vampire, steals every scene as his powers are that he drains people of their energy by boring them to death. The joke never gets old. Beanie Feldstein (from Booksmart) has a few episodes to continue showing off her powerful 2019 and how she gets dragged into the group is hilarious. For anyone who is a fan of vampires in TV and film over the years, from Nosferatu to Twilight, episode 7 is a must watch as it is one of this guys' favorite episodes of 2019. I can't praise the 1st season highly enough, so if you're a fan of the movie or haven't seen it and want a new comedy with fantastic humor all 10 episodes, then this is 1000% a must watch for you!
