Here Comes the Pain: WWE Stomping Grounds: Predictions
Courtesy: WWE
WWE Stomping Grounds,
first of it’s name, is this Sunday Live on the WWE network at 7pm. This PPV is
full of rematches, which usually reduces interest in the show. However, I
believe this PPV has the potential to being one of the better shows of the
year. With that, on to the predictions…
New Day vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn:
These two teams are definitely capable of a match-up that could potentially have the quality of an instant classic. Only caveat to this is that, this match will probably be on the preshow and only have a run time of 12 minutes. With this being said the baby faces always go over on the preshow.
Prediction: New Day
Cruiserweight Championship Match:
Tony
Nese [c] vs Drew Gulak vs Akira Tozawa: As all cruiserweight matches are, this
will be another fast-paced, fun match. With these 3 competitors each having a
different style, fans will be in for a treat with this triple threat. With Tony
Nese being champion since Wrestlemania and Tozawa being a former champ, I
believe it is Drew Gulak’s time to take over as king of the cruiserweights.
Over the past few months, Gulak’s character has become more serious in and
outside the ring. He has shown up on NXT, put on good matches with everyone
he’s faced, and proved that he is one of the best in-ring competitors in WWE.
Prediction: Drew Gulak
Roman Reigns vs Drew McIntyre:
Contrary
to popular belief, Roman Reigns is not indestructible. Drew McIntyre has also
been affiliated with Shane McMahon, Elias, and occasionally The Revival and
Baron Cobin as of late and with their persistent dastardly shenanignans,
there’s no way they allow McIntyre to lose this match. Even though Roman Reigns
is nothing short of superman and most likely will come close to winning this
match, I believe McIntyre will begin his push to super stardom come Sunday
night.
Prediction: Drew McIntyre
Raw Tag Team Title Match:
The
Revival [c] vs The Uso’s: The Revival just reclaimed the Raw tag titles only 2
weeks ago, and WWE wants to do everything they can to keep Dash and Dawson
happy. It’ll be hard to imagine the belts get hot shotted to the Uso’s so
quickly. This is the match-up we’ve all been waiting for with two of the best
tag teams in the world. If there is no outside interference than this match
could easily be match of the night.
Prediction: The Revival
Raw Women’s Title Match:
Becky
Lynch [c] vs Lacey Evans: Becky Lynch is the man for a reason and Lacey Evans
hasn’t been able to get the upper hand on Lynch yet. However, Lacey Evans
always has a few tricks up her sleeve and very well could possibly dethrone
Lynch. With this being said, I do believe Becky Lynch’s reign of terror will
last for a long while, meaning it can’t end just yet.
Prediction: Becky Lynch
Smackdown Live Tag Team Title Match:
Daniel Bryan & Rowan [c] vs Heavy Machinery: Heavy Machinery is a fun,
young, tag-team that could give Bryan & Rowan some trouble. Even though
Heavy Machinery could easily be the new Smackdown Live Tag champs, Bryan &
Rowan are seasoned vets that know all tricks of the trade.
Prediction: Daniel Bryan & Rowan
United States Title Match:
Samoa
Joe [c] vs Ricochet: I’m a big fan of Samoa Joe, and him with any title is good
enough for me. He’s probably the most dominant superstar in all of WWE and can
win in multiple different ways. If it were up to me, Joe would’ve been World or
Universal champ a long time ago but for whatever reason, the higher ups aren’t
as high on Samoa Joe as the fans. Ricochet has been getting an extraordinary
push since he’s been on the main roster but it definitely well deserved; the
dude is phenomenal. I don’t think Ricochet would’ve won the 5-way match on Raw
if he wasn’t going to win the US title from Joe.
Prediction: Ricochet
Smackdown Live Women’s Title Match: Bayley [c] vs Alexa Bliss:
This match will be perfect to
cement Bayley as a bad-ass when it comes to in-ring competition. In previous
title matches against Alexa Bliss, Bayley has never been able to let loose and
dish out a beat down. This time around, Alexa Bliss will have Nikki Cross at
ringside so shenanigans could definitely influence the outcome. I think this
Sunday will be different as Bayley will manage to retain her title.
Prediction: Bayley
WWE World Championship (Steel Cage) Match:
Kofi Kingston [c] vs Dolph Ziggler: Haven’t seen a steel cage match in a while,
so this’ll be a fun one. Kofi and Dolph have a rivalry that spans back the
better part of a decade and they always put on a great match. A steel cage
match for these two is perfect for the next chapter in this rivalry and the
match being for the World title adds a little razzle-dazzle. Dolph Ziggler has
always been on of the most talented superstars on the roster and always does a
good job at reinventing himself. I think another title run will serve Dolph
well. Kofi Kingston has been a servicable champion and for him to finally have
the title after 11 years of being overlooked makes his run as much sweeter.
Kofi has had the upper hand as of late, some with the help of the New Day in
his corner but he’ll have to do it all on his own this time. I’d be happy with
either outcome of this match as both superstars are well deserving of holding
the World title.
Prediction: Kofi Kingston
WWE Universal Championship Match w/Special Guest Referee:
Seth Rollins [c] vs Baron Corbin: At
the time of this writing, the special guest referee has not been announced.
Whoever it is, it will serve to benefit Baron Corbin of course as the boss’s
son, Shane McMahon is one of his partners in crime. Speculation points to Brock
Lesnar, but with being Mr. Money in the Bank, Corbin can’t be stupid enough to
run the risk of having Brock cash-in on him after potentially beating Rollins.
Whoever the ref ends up being, this match will probably be a mess of sorts and
Seth Rollins will have to somehow overcome it all to retain. Rollins has been
on a rampage over the past couple weeks and I believe it’ll continue as he’ll
defeat Corbin once again.
Prediction: Seth Rollins
